Commercial Manager Location: Birmingham, UK (Hybrid – office & remote) Salary: £38,000 – £45,000 DOE Type: Permanent, Full-time Sector: Digital Marketing Agency My client is a growing digital marketing agency and they’re now looking to bring in a Commercial Manager to take full ownership of sales performance and revenue growth. This is a genuinely senior, hands-on role with real authority. You won’t be operating at arm’s length or passing decisions upward – you’ll be trusted to run sales end-to-end, close work directly, and build a sales system that performs consistently without founder dependency. The focus is on predictable, sustainable growth rather than short-term wins. You’ll be responsible for shaping how sales is done, making commercial decisions independently, and balancing growth with delivery capacity and long-term retention. This role would suit an experienced commercial or sales professional who is confident owning outcomes, closing retainers, and improving systems over time. You’ll be comfortable operating autonomously, making judgement calls without perfect information, and standing behind the decisions you make. COMMERCIAL MANAGER ROLE: • Own the agency’s sales function end-to-end, from lead qualification through to closing, • Lead sales conversations and personally close retainer-based work (£1k–£5k/month, ~£3k average), • Design, run, and continuously improve the sales system to support predictable revenue growth, • Maintain a healthy pipeline with clear visibility and forecasting, • Make commercial decisions independently rather than escalating by default, • Apply pricing frameworks consistently and say no to poor-fit opportunities, • Sell honestly and accurately, without overpromising or misrepresenting capability, • Balance revenue growth with delivery capacity and long-term client retention, • Escalate genuine risks appropriately while owning outcomes, • Support business growth by owning recruitment execution when additional capacity is required, • Run hiring processes in line with agreed role definitions and recommendations, • Collaborate closely with delivery teams to ensure sales activity aligns with operational reality COMMERCIAL MANAGER ESSENTIAL SKILLS: • Proven experience owning sales or commercial performance in an agency or services-based business, • Comfortable leading sales conversations and closing retainer-based, value-driven work, • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to make decisions under uncertainty, • Experience designing or improving sales systems, not just closing individual deals, • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal oversight, • Accountable for outcomes, not just activity, • High integrity, with a focus on sustainable growth rather than short-term wins, • Strong organisational skills and pipeline management capability DESIRABLE SKILLS: • Experience working in digital marketing, SEO, PR, or similar agency environments, • Familiarity with forecasting, pricing frameworks, or capacity planning, • Experience supporting or running recruitment in a growing business, • Background in scaling sales functions beyond founder-led selling BENEFITS: • Hybrid working (office & remote), • Generous annual leave (30 days + wellbeing day + birthday off), • Up to 12 additional performance-based annual leave days, • Genuine autonomy and commercial ownership, • Real flexibility, not lip service, • Work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays, • Occupational sick pay, • Generous budget to create a comfortable home or office setup, • Opportunity to shape how the business grows long-term TO BE CONSIDERED: Please apply via this advert or email me directly at .
