Position Summary The dynamic, people-first Store Manager role takes ownership of both store performance and team development. This role is not just about managing operations; its about building a strong, unified team, developing emerging leaders, and creating a store culture that thrives. This position serves as a hands-on leader, culture builder, and customer experience champion, making a meaningful impact while advancing the mission of Common Threads and Building Hope in the City. The Store Manager will be supported in their efforts by the Director of Common Threads, and the rest of the leadership and administrative team. General Responsibilities Leadership, Team Management, and Accountability • Accomplish management objectives through collaborative teamwork, • Support and enforce company policies and procedures by providing timely coaching to address performance or conduct concerns, including leading difficult conversations and administering corrective action as needed, in alignment with organizational guidelines and values, • Encourage, motivate, and empower team members, and leverage skills and resources in ways that reflect the character and values of Common Threads and Building Hope in the City, • Conduct or oversee regular check-ins and annual performance reviews with the management team and associates Store Operations, Coverage, and Compliance • Manage and oversee completion of opening and closing checklists, directly or through delegation, including:, • Proper Point of Sale (POS) operations, • Opening and closing the store reliably and on time, • Performing cash open and close procedures accurately, • Ensuring cleanliness and organization of the sales floor in all areas, • Following ADA and Fire Code requirements related to the sales floor, • Cover the responsibilities of Assistant Managers and Leads when they are away from the store, • Organize floor space to maximize revenue potential while maintaining safety and brand guidelines, • Ensure deposits are taken to the bank in a timely manner Customer Experience and Brand Representation • Demonstrate and deliver outstanding customer service to shoppers, donors, volunteers, and fellow staff members, • Oversee the in-store music platform in accordance with Common Threads guidelines, • Help manage and nurture partner relationships, including utilities, storage facilities, local churches, and community groups Communication, Meetings, and Information Flow • Serve as a communication liaison regarding sales and other pertinent information for cashiers via internal messaging boards, phone calls, and in-person communication, • Stay up to date with daily store communications on Slack, • Attend, lead, and contribute to weekly store meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, bi-monthly Store Manager meetings, and quarterly leadership team meetings, • Utilize provided software to input data, create meeting agendas, and track and resolve store-and brand-related issues as part of the leadership team Scheduling and Administration • Prepare staff schedules and daily setup sheets, • Track PTO, birthdays, and anniversaries through our HRIS platform, • Review, edit, and approve time sheets, or delegate and oversee the process, in collaboration with Payroll and HR, • Collaborate with other store leaders on onboarding and offboarding processes, including interviewing new hires Reporting, Systems, and Financial Oversight • Review and manage weekly and monthly reports, including but not limited to expense, productivity, daily sales, monthly sales, profit and loss, and sales packets Other • Other duties as assigned Key Skills and Qualifications • Passion for excellent internal and external customer service, • Expert at checkout and POS systems, • Retail or resale management experience, or transferable management/leadership skills, • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, • Strong interpersonal skills; able to relate positively and effectively with staff, guests, donors, and volunteers, • Ability to effectively delegate and manage responsibilities, • Self-motivated with good time management skills, • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Google Workspace applications (Drive, Docs, Sheets); and team communication platforms, specifically Slack Physical and Other Requirements • Ability to commute to and from store location in Brook Park and occasional travel to other Common Threads or Building Hope in the City locations, • Clean driving record and reliable personal transportation, • Flexible availability, including some evenings and weekends as well as shift coverage due to illness or emergencies of leadership, • Able to stand on feet and work for several hours without sitting, • Able to walk, twist, push, and lift at least 40 pounds, • Ability to pass a background check, • Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer, • NOTE: Sometimes production areas can be dusty due to indoor/outdoor traffic and nature of donated items and cleaning.
