Role Summary The Head of Projects will lead and develop the Projects function within an M&E / Building Services business. You will be responsible for the strategic planning, delivery, profitability, and continuous improvement of all project activity across the business, ensuring a high-quality, safe, and commercially successful service for clients. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong technical background, commercial acumen, and team leadership skills. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor and manage the Projects team (Project Managers, Coordinators, Engineers), fostering a high-performance culture. Conduct performance reviews, training and development planning. Ensure team competency and project staffing align with business needs. Project Delivery & Governance Own delivery, coordination, planning, and execution of all M&E projects from tender to completion. Oversee project governance: risk management, subcontractor performance, quality control and compliance (QSHE/H&S). Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Commercial & Financial Performance Manage project financials including forecasting, budgets, margins, cost control and commercial reporting. Support business development through client engagement, upselling and contract growth. Maintain strong commercial oversight of project delivery and profitability. Client & Stakeholder Management Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders. Act as senior point of contact on delivery, client performance and issue resolution. Strategic & Operational Planning Contribute to long-term planning and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and implement robust processes, procedures and standards for project delivery excellence. Report regularly on project performance to senior leadership. Person Specification Essential Extensive experience in management of M&E or Building Services projects and teams. Proven track record delivering multi-discipline projects, typically ranging from £100k–£3m+. Strong commercial understanding (P&L responsibility, budgeting, forecasting). Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. Sound knowledge of Health & Safety standards and industry best practice. Able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem solving. Desirable Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Construction or similar. Professional qualification (e.g., Prince2, APM, CEng/CEPM). Experience with FM and maintenance contracts as well as new build / refurbishment project delivery.
