WHY JOIN SUSHINOYA? Sushinoya is a fast-paced Japanese restaurant concept built around fresh food, strong standards and great service. As part of Kim’s Group, we’re continuing to grow our restaurants and create real development opportunities for people who want to build a long-term management career with us. THE ROLE As Assistant Manager, you’ll work closely with the General Manager to help run the restaurant across people, service, labour, standards and commercial performance. You’ll take ownership of shifts, coach the team, support recruitment and training, help manage the rota and labour, and step up to lead the restaurant when the GM is not on site. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be visible on the floor, close to the team and comfortable moving between service, people management and business controls. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING · Leading full shifts and taking responsibility for opening, service and closing standards. · Supporting the General Manager with daily sales, labour and staffing decisions. · Helping build rotas that reflect forecast sales, team availability and labour targets. · Running team briefings, setting priorities and deploying the team effectively across the shift. · Coaching Supervisors and Team Members and following up on performance and development actions. · Supporting recruitment, interviews, trial shifts, onboarding and probation reviews. · Managing attendance, lateness, absence and day-to-day people issues appropriately. · Handling customer complaints and service recovery with confidence and professionalism. · Monitoring food safety, allergens, cleaning, security and daily compliance checks. · Supporting stock, ordering, waste control and availability with the kitchen and management team. · Reviewing customer feedback and helping turn recurring issues into practical actions. · Supporting cash-up, refunds, discounts, end-of-day controls and management administration. · Logging and escalating maintenance, equipment and operational issues promptly. · Providing clear updates to the General Manager and Area Manager on performance, risks and priorities. · Acting as the senior manager on site when required and taking full ownership of the restaurant. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR · Previous experience as an Assistant Manager, Supervisor or Team Leader in a busy hospitality or retail environment. · Confidence leading a team and taking responsibility for a full shift. · Good understanding of labour, rotas, sales and basic commercial restaurant controls. · Strong customer-service skills and confidence handling complaints. · Experience coaching team members and giving clear, constructive feedback. · Organised and comfortable managing several priorities at the same time. · Good understanding of food safety, allergens and operational compliance. · Reliable, punctual and willing to take ownership rather than wait to be asked. · Clear communication skills and confidence working with both FOH and BOH teams. · Flexible availability, including weekends and peak trading periods. · A positive attitude and genuine ambition to progress into a General Manager role. WHAT WE OFFER · Competitive salary and a stable full-time contract. · Structured management training across people, labour, operations and commercial controls. · Hands-on development from the General Manager, Area Manager and Operations team. · A clear progression route toward General Manager for strong performers. · Experience running a full restaurant operation and developing your commercial management skills. · Opportunities across multiple Sushinoya and Kim’s Group locations. · A growing business where strong performance and ownership are recognised. · Staff benefits and discounts in line with company policy. YOU'LL BE A GREAT FIT IF... You like being involved in the whole business, not just one part of the shift. You’re comfortable leading people, making decisions and keeping standards high while still thinking about labour, sales and customer experience. You want real responsibility now and see Assistant Manager as the next step toward running your own restaurant.
