Job Description Title: Certified Medical Assistant Shift: FT - 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Location: Shelters City Wide | Health Centers EW and Broadway Heartland Alliance Healthβs (HAH) mission is to transform healthcare for the most vulnerable β particularly people experiencing homelessness, mental illness or addictions, or struggling with multiple chronic illnesses β improving health for all and the well-being of our community. This position provides a variety of services integral to the functioning of our shelter outreach programs. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is primarily responsible for supporting clinical providers and community health nurses by facilitating participant flow, assisting with various participant care activities, and performing related administrative and clerical functions. The CMA ensures high-quality service to participants while respecting and maintaining confidentiality, demonstrating cultural competence, and working within established job parameters. Individual responsibilities and work volume are determined through annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Participant Flow Management: β’ Maintains participant flow by escorting participants from the intake area to designated service areas within the shelter., β’ Prepares participants for their visit, examination procedure, and/or treatment in accordance with established procedures., β’ Obtains vital signs as necessary and documents complaints based on information received., β’ Assists providers and nurses with procedures in accordance with established protocols., β’ Administers medication and/or immunizations under the direction of an RN and physician., β’ Under the direction of a provider or CHN, assists by returning participant telephone calls related to prescription refills, normal laboratory results, referrals, etc., β’ Maintains a high-quality participant care environment by cleaning, preparing, and stocking all examination rooms and treatment areas within the shelter., β’ Assists in the collection, labeling, and processing of specimens., β’ Adheres to OSHA and infection control policies and procedures., β’ Participates in health screenings, educational programs, and team meetings., β’ Performs receptionist, participant service, clerical, and other functions as needed to support the efficient operation of the shelter-based program. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. β’ Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited school of medical assisting, β’ Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR certification and American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) CMA Certification -or-American Medical Technologists (AMT) RMA certification. Consideration will be given to candidates who have registered to take the AAMA or AMT Certification exams.
