Job Description The Role The Advanced Manufacturing Technician provides primary technical support for Gear Center machining operations while also supporting gear inspection, metrology, and electric motor prototype builds. This role requires strong multi-discipline capability across machining, inspection, electromechanical assembly, and troubleshooting. You will set up and run precision manufacturing equipment, validate part quality through inspection systems, support prototype motor builds, and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on tooling, fixturing, and process improvements. What You'll Do Gear Center - Primary Responsibilities \n • Interpret work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and machining parameters to define machining plans.\n, • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills/lathes and gear-manufacturing equipment (hobbing, honing, grinding).\n, • Install and adjust chucks, tools, fixtures, attachments, and workholding; perform machine setup verification and first-piece validation.\n, • Monitor machining operations, diagnose malfunctions, adjust programs, and replace tooling as needed to maintain accuracy and surface finish requirements.\n, • Perform preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and escalate mechanical/electrical issues as required.\n, • Read and interpret part prints, gear charts, spline data, GD&T, and specification sheets.\n, • Program and operate gear-inspection systems (Gleason, Klingelnberg) and interpret inspection charts for corrective action.\n, • Program and operate CMM equipment for gears, shafts, bearings, housings, and drivetrain components.\n, • Perform surface-finish inspection and open-setup (surface plate) measurement on precision features.\n, • Generate inspection reports for prototype/low-volume builds and disposition nonconforming parts per GMS requirements.\n, • Support prototype and pre-production electric motor builds per build schedules.\n, • Assist with defect analysis, repair, and rework activities.\n, • Operate E-motor lab equipment: presses, welders, wire-forming equipment, balancing systems, ovens, induction heaters, surge/hi-pot testers, and electromechanical test equipment.\n, • Operate general machine-shop equipment for fixture modifications, tooling fabrication, and process development support.\n, • Follow all plant safety standards, complete required corporate training, and support a safe working environment.\n, • Document machining, inspection, and build activities in production/quality logs.\n, • Communicate open items and shift handoffs to maintain cross-shift continuity.\n, • Participate in continuous-improvement, problem-solving, and standardization activities.\n, • Maintain technical proficiency through training and technical literature.\n\n Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) \n • 7+ years of combined experience in machining, inspection, or prototype manufacturing environments.\n, • Strong machining capability including programming and operation of CNC mills, lathes, and/or gear-manufacturing equipment.\n, • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and precision machining specifications.\n, • Proficiency with CMM programming/operation, gear-inspection systems, and surface-finish measurement tools.\n, • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining, metrology, electromechanical systems, and relevant math principles.\n, • Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting capability for moderately complex machining, inspection, and prototype issues.\n, • Proficiency in computer-based reporting and documentation (MS Office, data entry, inspection reporting).\n, • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and off-shifts as needed.\n, • Ability to support multiple operational areas based on business requirements.\n\n Preferred Qualifications \n • Prototype or pre-production manufacturing experience.\n, • Gear-manufacturing and gear-inspection experience (hobbing, grinding, inspection systems, charts).\n, • Electric motor or electromechanical assembly/testing experience.\n, • Experience supporting cross-functional operations (machining, inspection, assembly).\n, • Familiarity with GMS Built-In-Quality methodologies or similar structured quality systems.\n\n #LI-BC1 GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
