Description Position Details Department of Applied Health Sciences School of Health Sciences College of Medicine and Health Location: University of Birmingham Edgbaston Birmingham UK Full time starting salary is normally in the range 36130 to 45413 with potential progression once in post to 48149 Grade: 7 Full Time Fixed Term contract up to March 2027 Closing date: 14th August 2025 Background To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking qualitative research and/or health economic evaluation within two impactful applied health research programmes: • DEKODE improving outcomes in diabetes emergencies, • Work within specified research grants and contribute to writing bids, • Operate within the areas of qualitative research health economics or applied health research, • Analyse and interpret research findings and results, • Contribute to generating funding The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below. • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research with mentorship if needed, • Contribute to writing bids for research funding, • Design and conduct qualitative research (e.g. interviews focus groups) and/or economic evaluations, • Analyse and interpret data using appropriate theoretical and methodological frameworks, • Apply knowledge in a way that develops new intellectual understanding, • Disseminate research findings through academic publications research seminars and policy briefings, • Contribute to development of implementation strategies and evaluation plans, • Supervise students working on related research themes, • Contribute to developing and refining models methods and tools for applied health research, • Undertake management/administration tasks arising from research activities, • Engage in departmental research activities and administrative responsibilities, • Present research outputs at conferences and stakeholder events, • Provide guidance to research assistants and project team members, • Address challenges that may impact research delivery or timelines, • First degree and normally a higher degree (e.g. MSc PhD or near to completion) in a relevant field such as health sciences social sciences or economics, • Experience in qualitative research and/or health economic methods, • High-level analytical capability, • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, • Ability to contribute to research planning and proposal development, • Ability to co-ordinate own work with others to avoid duplication and ensure collaboration, • Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, • Experience conducting research related to diabetes or womens health, • Familiarity with implementation science or quality improvement frameworks, • Experience in stakeholder engagement or collaborative co-design, • Interest in reducing health inequalities and improving healthcare
